If you’ve got Invisalign questions, we’ve got the answers! Improving your smile is a terrific investment, one that you will never regret, and Invisalign is an excellent tool for most patients to get the straight teeth they’ve want in the shortest amount of time. Let’s look closer and find out more.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign are the original, transparent braces to straighten teeth. Used to align crooked teeth, lessen gaps in between teeth, and correct an over or underbite, Invisalign are retainer-like braces used to improve and straighten teeth. Invisalign are clear and custom-made for your mouth using a special plastic material.
How does Invisalign work?
Using a series of different Invisalign aligners, the position of each tooth is gently moved to a new position. Patients wear the aligners for 20-22 hours each day but should remove them for teeth cleaning and eating. The custom-made Invisalign trays are designed to move each tooth slowly, but surely, to achieve optimal results. Invisalign can be used to straighten both upper and lower teeth.
Does Invisalign hurt?
The process of having Invisalign trays molded causes no pain. You will receive new aligners every two weeks or so as the teeth are shifted into their new location. For the first couple of days into wearing your new aligner, teeth can be mildly sore as the new alignment begins but an over-the-counter painkiller can be taken to control any discomfort.
How long do I have to wear Invisalign?
For optimal results, it is recommended patients commit to wearing their aligners 20-22 hours every day. The trays should be removed while eating, brushing or flossing your teeth. The length of treatment depends on each patient’s individual case as it can take about 6-24 months for adults.
Will people notice I’m using Invisalign?
Patients are often surprised when people don’t notice aligners at all. Invisalign can change your speech slightly, but this usually goes away after a couple of days as the tongue gets used to having Invisalign trays in your mouth. The aligners are designed to fit snugly in your mouth and won’t fall out while you sleep or talk.
Are there any restrictions when I use Invisalign?
Because it is required that you remove the aligners when you eat, there are no real limits on what you can eat or drink. Chewing gum will stick to the aligners and should be avoided. It is best, also, to not smoke while wearing aligners to ensure the aligners don’t become discolored.
How do I take care of my Invisalign aligners?
There is a special Invisalign cleaning solution that can be purchased, but most patients simply clean their trays by brushing them with their regular toothbrush and rinsing with warm water.
How much does Invisalign cost?
As with all orthodontic work, the cost of Invisalign depends completely on the individual’s prescribed treatment plan, including treatment goals, difficulty of teeth position, and how long treatment will be needed. If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, however, the average cost is $5,000 without insurance. For Invisalign discounts twice a year, sign up for our email newsletter!
