At Barron Family Dental, we’re delighted to be your dentist! Our services are comprehensive ranging from cleanings and checkups to veneers and Invisalign®. While we can handle a wide selection of dental and oral health services for you and your family, there are times we may need to refer you to one of our hand-picked specialist colleagues.
Let’s have a look at the main types of specialists you might be referred to for treatment.
Endodontist
While most patients don’t want to think about it, there may come a time when a root canal is needed. When the soft tissue, or pulp, inside the root canal of a tooth is infected or inflamed, it can cause pain, temperature sensitivity, swelling, and overall discomfort. If this is the case, we will refer you to a local endodontist who specializes in root canal services.
Orthodontist
Our Invisalign transparent teeth straightening service is a terrific teeth-straightening solution for many of our patients. However, if a patient has severe crowding of teeth, cross-bite or overbite, an orthodontist may be recommended. Orthodontists not only work to straighten teeth but have the expertise to correct facial imbalances and bite alignment.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
For needed surgery, including the removal of wisdom teeth, you will be referred to a local oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Also called oral surgeons, these specialists have the skills and experience to safely remove wisdom teeth, teeth impacted inside the jaw, removal of tumors, and much more.
Periodontist
While our services offer regular and deep cleaning of the teeth and gums, there may times when the cleaning required is extensive to treat disease or get a patient back on the road to good oral health. If this is the case, we will refer patients to a periodontist. By focusing exclusively on periodontal or gum disease, a periodontist can diagnose and treat disease through a wider range of techniques and surgical procedures.
Prosthodontist
We can help many patients with improving their smiles and appearance. Some patients, however, require specialized diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of their teeth and mouth tissue. A prosthodontist specializes in restoring missing teeth, gum tissues, and jaw structure. This expert referral helps patients with a comprehensive plan to restore their overall oral health.
